GRAVEL CALCULATOR:
YARDS, TONS & TRUCK LOADS

Put in the length and width in feet and the depth in inches. The calculator turns that into cubic yards, then tons, then the number of Blue Sands truck loads at 14 to 16 tons a load, with a delivered price. It opens on 1 1/2 inch crusher run, the usual driveway gravel. A full load of 1 1/2 inch crusher run is $425 delivered in Tulsa County, sales tax extra. Outside Tulsa County, add $50 a load.

HOW TO MEASURE

Three numbers and a tape measure. Nothing needs to be exact to the inch.

  1. Length and width, in feet. Run a tape down the long side and across the short side. If the area is an L or an odd shape, break it into rectangles, run each one through the calculator, and add them up.
  2. Depth, in inches. Measure how deep you want the new rock, not the old rock already there. For a worn drive, check a few spots where the base shows through.
  3. Round up to whole loads. The calculator rounds the load count up to full trucks. If you land between sizes, order a little extra. Running short means waiting on a second delivery.

Typical depths, the same ones on the calculator buttons: 2 inches to top up a driveway that already has rock, 3 inches for beds, 4 inches for a new driveway, and 6 inches for a building pad.

The math, if you want to check it by hand: length times width in feet, times depth in inches divided by 12, gives cubic feet. Divide by 27 for cubic yards. Multiply cubic yards by about 1.36 for tons of gravel. A full load of 14 to 16 tons works out to roughly 10 to 12 cubic yards.

GRAVEL CALCULATOR QUESTIONS

How many cubic yards of gravel are in a truck load?

Roughly 10 to 12. Our trucks haul 14 to 16 tons a load, and the calculator weighs gravel at about 1.36 tons per cubic yard to go between tons and yards.

How many tons of gravel do I need for a driveway?

Figure the cubic yards and multiply by about 1.36. A 12 by 60 foot drive at 4 inches deep is about 8.9 cubic yards, a little over 12 tons, so one load covers it.

How deep should driveway gravel be?

About 2 inches to freshen a drive that already has a base, and 4 inches for a new driveway over dirt. Soft ground or a building pad usually takes 6 inches.

How accurate is the calculator?

It gets you close, and it is still an estimate. Ground is rarely flat, gravel packs down as it is driven on, and every load crosses a scale, so the final tonnage and price come off the scale ticket and are confirmed on your quote. Prices include delivery; sales tax is extra.
