ASPHALT MILLINGS CALCULATOR:
YARDS, TONS & TRUCK LOADS

Put in the length and width in feet and the depth in inches. The calculator turns that into cubic yards, then tons, then the number of Blue Sands truck loads at 14 to 16 tons a load, with a delivered price. It is set to our screened millings, sized 1 1/2 inch minus. A full load of screened millings is $490 delivered in Tulsa County, sales tax extra. Outside Tulsa County, add $50 a load.

HOW TO MEASURE

Three numbers and a tape measure. Nothing needs to be exact to the inch.

  1. Length and width, in feet. Run a tape down the long side and across the short side. If the area is an L or an odd shape, break it into rectangles, run each one through the calculator, and add them up.
  2. Depth, in inches. For a drive that already has rock or old millings, measure only the new layer you want on top.
  3. Round up to whole loads. The calculator rounds the load count up to full trucks. If you land between sizes, order a little extra. Running short means waiting on a second delivery.

Typical depths, the same ones on the calculator buttons: 2 inches to top up a driveway that already has rock, 3 inches for beds, 4 inches for a new driveway, and 6 inches for a building pad.

The math, if you want to check it by hand: length times width in feet, times depth in inches divided by 12, gives cubic feet. Divide by 27 for cubic yards. Multiply cubic yards by about 1.36 for tons; the calculator weighs millings the same as gravel. A full load of 14 to 16 tons works out to roughly 10 to 12 cubic yards.

MILLINGS CALCULATOR QUESTIONS

How many cubic yards of millings are in a load?

Roughly 10 to 12 cubic yards. A load is 14 to 16 tons, and the calculator weighs millings at about 1.36 tons per cubic yard, the same as gravel.

How many tons of millings do I need for a driveway?

Cubic yards times about 1.36. A 12 by 60 foot drive at 4 inches deep comes to about 8.9 cubic yards, roughly 12 tons, so one load handles it.

How deep should asphalt millings be?

About 4 inches for a new drive or parking area, and around 2 inches to refresh one that already has a surface. Thin spots and potholes may need more.

How accurate is the calculator?

It gets you close, and it is still an estimate. Ground is rarely flat, millings pack tighter once they are driven on, and every load crosses a scale, so the final tonnage and price come off the scale ticket and are confirmed on your quote. Prices include delivery; sales tax is extra.
